Two K24 Television sports reporters, Apopo Mujema and Wanjiku Mwenda, have been nominated for the AIPS Sports Media Awards.

The two entered stories in the Video Athlete Profile of the annual event which is organised by International Sports Press Association (AIPS) that brings together all Sports journalists worldwide.

Mujema submitted two projects which made it to the Top 30 list in separate categories. “Beyond Football” in the Video Athlete Profile category, and the story “When hope is in short supply” which also made it to Top 30 of the Video Short Feature category. This feature showcased the fate of children who hung onto boxing for survival in slums.

On the other hand, Wanjiku Mwenda, who also serves as a sports anchor, submitted her story titled the “Hero behind Eliud Kipchoge” which features Kipchoge’s long term coach Patrick Kipsang who prefers to keep a low profile.

A total of 309 works from Africa were submitted to the AIPS Sport Media Awards for different awards’ categories, with 32 countries represented.

The 30 entries in each category will then be reduced to three finalists by January 15, 2020, awaiting the award gala scheduled for February 5, 2020 in Budapest, Hungary.
