Jariel Ndeda Obura tops 2021 KCSE exams with 87.167 points

Jariel Ndeda Obura is the top candidate in the 2021 KCSE exams in results announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

Obura emerged top beating over 800,000 others who sat for the exams between March 11th and April 1st, 2022.

Obura from Mang’u High School garnered 87.167 points out of the possible 100 points which is a straight A plain.

In the results, 789 male candidates scored A plains beating their female counterparts who only had 349 A plains summing up to 1,138 candidates compared to last year’s  0.12 per cent.

Before the onset of Covid-19 which saw a prolonged closure of schools to combat the spread of the virus, the country had a well-structured system of education which ran from January to December for both primary and secondary.

However, the school calendar had to change when the pandemic surfaced in the country, where learning institutions were forced to close for a long break that resulted in the academic calendar changes.

Some 826,807 candidates sat the exam in 10,413 centres compared to 752,981 in 10,437 centres in 2020 reflecting an increase of 78,034 or 9.39 per cent.

Out of the candidates, 421,000 were male while the rest were female.

The candidates were acclaimed for beating all the odds including the Covid-19 shocks to register remarkable performance.

During the release of the results, the government announced that Grade 6, Standard 8 and Form 4 exams will be free.

Early Learning and Basic Education PS Dr Julius Jwan urged parents not to pay any coins for the examinations as the government will cater for the bills.
