The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into the deaths of two unnamed men who are reported to have lost their lives in the hands of National Police Service (NPS) reservists.

In a statement dated Tuesday, January 9, 2024, IPOA chairperson Anne Makori revealed that the duo were shot dead at a farmer’s cooperative society in Endebess Constituency, Trans Nzoia County on Monday, January 8.

Makori further said several others were also injured during the incident.

"It is alleged that several others were also injured in the shooting incident," Makori stated.

IPOA noted suitable recommendations will be provided upon the completion of the investigations noting culpable persons will be brought to book.

This comes after the authority condemned the attack of police officers in Banane, Liboi Sub County in Garissa County on Thursday, January 4, 2024.

The attack through an improvised explosive device (IED) left one officer injured and several others unhurt.

"IPOA sends a message of solidarity to the Inspector General of Police and the entire Service as they continue to dispense services aimed at securing the country from internal threats to the security and wellbeing of all Kenyans. As the Authority empathizes with the officers who were injured in the attack and wishes them the full restoration of health, it also hopes that the Inspector General of Police and the police leadership will decisively deal with the criminal act committed at Banane," Makori stated.
