The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has protested against alleged harassment of its officials preparing responses for the presidential election petitions filed at the Supreme Court on Monday, August 22.

In a statement, the electoral body said an organised group of goons wielding crude weapons attempted to attack its personnel at premises within Nairobi at around 8:30 PM Monday.

The attackers, the commission said, were, however, repulsed by security officers.

IEBC called on the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to probe the incident and bring the culprits to book.

"The Commission condemns this act of hooliganism and intimidation, and calls upon the Inspector of Police (IG) to bring to an end this blatant abuse of the Rule of Law," IEBC said in a statement.

Eight petitions challenging William Ruto's election victory were filed at the Supreme Court on Monday.

The petitions were filed by Azimio One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua, Activists Okiya Omtatah and Khelef Khalifa, David Kairuki Ngari, Youth Advocacy Africa(YAA), John Njoroge Kamau and gospel singer Reuben Kigame, setting the stage for a major legal battle at the Apex court.

All the petitions are seeking the invalidation of Ruto's election and a repeat of a fresh presidential election in accordance with the constitution and Elections Act, among other orders from the court.
