A helicopter pilot on Thursday rescued a lorry driver and passengers trapped in raging floods after their vehicle plunged during a heavy downpour witnessed in Samburu county.

In a video seen by K24 Digital, the driver struggled to drive the lorry past the waters but the mighty floods came crashing through and submerged the lorry.

However, the occupants of the vehicle hurriedly escaped through the window and stood on top of the vehicle waiting for help.

As the unfortunate incident was unfolding, the area locals who were on standby alerted police and rescuers to offer assistance to the victims.

Shortly after, the Ol Malo Ranch helicopter and the Tropic Air team arrived at the scene ready to rescue the victims struggling to stay atop the lorry.

The helicopter rescued the victims and moved them to safer ground before the lorry fully submerged in the water and was washed away by the floods.

Witnesses at the scene lauded the rescue team for their efforts.

"That's the way to go, at least they have rescued the child first. Good job," one of the residents said.
