Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is once again pointing fingers at the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration for the malfunctioning generators at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Speaking during the annual Kimalel goat auction in Baringo County, Gachagua claimed that the generators purchased by the previous government are 'fake'

Gachagua defended Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, urging people to stop blaming him for an issue that was not within his control.

"Huyu Kipchumba anajaribu sana, niliona watu wanamkemea, ati ajiuzuru kwa sababu generator imekataa kufanya kazi JKIA, ni yeye alinunua ile generator? Ilinunuliwa an ile serikali engine an ilikua fake, sasa ikijaribu kuwakishwa inazimika, sasa Kipchumba nunua generator yako ueke pale achana na ile ya hawa watu, si ii kijana anajaribu, acha kuingilia viongozi bure, kwa sababu mambo tulikuta ni mengi yalikua yamearibika, ndo tunajaribu kurekebisha," Gachagua asserted.

Loosely translated as; "This Kipchumba is trying hard. I saw people criticizing him, saying he should resign because the generator at JKIA failed to work. Did he buy that generator? It's the previous government. Now, when they try to power it up, it shuts down. So, Kipchumba, buy your generator and install it there, leave theirs alone. Isn't this young man trying? Stop interfering with leaders for no reason because we found many things were messed up, and now we are trying to fix them."

He suggested to Murkomen that he should consider acquiring a new generator to replace the old one. Additionally, he urged him to construct a new airport that could garner international respect for the country.

"Sasa wanataka kutubebesha mizigo na iyo generator ni wao walinunua pesa mingi, wakanunua kitu fake. Sasa lazima Kipchumba anunue generator mzuri aweke pale, na ajenge airport mpya ambayo inatupea heshima dunia nzima," Gachagua added.

Loosely translated as; "Now, they want to burden us with the baggage, and that generator they bought with a lot of money, they bought a fake generator. Now, Kipchumba must buy a good generator and place it there, and build a new airport that gives us respect worldwide."

This comes hot on the heels of a nationwide blackout four days ago.

Inherited issues

He emphasized that the current administration is tirelessly working to rectify the issues inherited from the previous government.

Gachagua revealed that ministers have complained about President William Ruto's hard work, stating Ruto works tirelessly day and night.

He noted that they even complain that the president is overworking and they can't keep up.

He urged the Head of State to maintain the momentum to repair the damages left behind by the previous administration.

"Na kama kuna kiongozi ako na bidii ni Rais William Ruto, anaamka saa kumi na moja adi saa sita ya usiku, ata hawa ministers walikua wanataka Rais apunguze speed ndo ata wao wapunguze bidii, lakini mimi nasema, ungeza speed, kazi itaendelea, kwa sababu ni shida mingi tulikuta kutoka kwa iyo serikali ingine," he said.

Loosely translated as;

"If there is a leader known for hard work, it is President William Ruto. He wakes up at 5.00 a.m. and works until midnight. Even the ministers wanted the President to slow down so that they could also reduce their efforts. But I say, increase the speed, and the work will continue, because we face many challenges from the previous government."
