The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has declared a reduction in fuel prices for the period between January 15 and February 14, 2024.
In a statement on Sunday, January 14, 2023, EPRA said the prices of super petrol and diesel will decrease by Ksh5 per litre, while the cost of kerosene will drop by Ksh4.82 per litre.
"In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump price for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene decreased by Ksh5.00, Ksh5.00, and Ksh4.82 per litre, respectively," the statement read in part.
In Nairobi County, motorists can expect to pay Ksh207.36 for Super Petrol, Ksh196.47 for diesel, and Ksh194.23 for kerosene over the next 30 days.
Motorists in Kisumu will also benefit from the reduced fuel prices, with rates set at Ksh207.12, Ksh196.64, and Ksh194.42 for petrol, diesel, and kerosene, respectively.
EPRA Director General Kiptoo said the new prices will take effect from midnight, January 15, 2024.
He also said the new prices are inclusive of the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) outlined by the Finance Act 2023, which will be effective.
"The price of Diesel has been cross-subsidized with that of Super petrol. Oil Marketing Companies (MCA) will be compensated for the under-recovery of costs from the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) fund," Kiptoo stated.
EPRA assured the public of its commitment to fair competition and the protection of the interests of both consumers and investors in the energy and petroleum sectors.
