A family in Ruiru, Kiambu county is in shock after learning that their kin had exaggerated his hospital bills for his own selfish interest.
According to one of his daughters, the 78-year-old man residing in Kawangware, Nairobi, is said to have massively tripled his hospital bill from Ksh1,850 to Ksh15,000.
The woman expressed disappointment in her father's behaviour. She noted that they had the option to report the matter to the police but chose to have a discussion with the elderly man not to repeat the mistake.
"We are shocked and totally perturbed by the behaviour of our father. Together with the hospital management we had an option of reporting him to police and eventually charging him in a law court but after family consultations, we chose to forgive him but warned him not to repeat that mistake," the daughter stated.
In his defence, the senior citizen claimed that he did what he had to do since he had pressing matters that he had to settle without involving his children. He underscored that his advanced age made it impossible for him to pick up menial jobs to sort the issue.
He, however, pleaded with his children to forgive him and vowed not to repeat the mistake.
"You are a man and you know there are other things you can’t always ask from your children so I thought if I alter the figures I will be able to get that money and settle the debts. I plead with them to forgive me and I will never repeat that," the man added.
