Ethics Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has this morning Monday, June 20, 2022, arrested former commissioner of lands Wilson Gachanja, former senior lands officer in charge of coast region Zablon Mabeya and former physical planner ministry of lands Salim Mohammed, in connection to the illegal acquisition of public by Land by private developers.

EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak said the names of two of the arrested land officials feature in most of the pleadings filed in court seeking to recover illegally acquired public land.

Twalib noted that Gachanja and Mabea were behind most illegally acquired public land during the Moi regime which they facilitated in abuse of their offices.

"In addition to recovering stolen public land from private developers, EACC is now going for the public officials who facilitated the same," he said.

"In addition to tracing and recovering public land that was illegally allocated to private developers, EACC seeks to hold all the public officials involved in illegal transfers accountable since public officials hold office to serve the public interest and as such, they should at all-time desist from breaching the trust vested in them," he added.

EACC to arrest more suspects

Twalib further noted that the commission would make more arrests since Investigations targeting more public officials on related public land matters are ongoing.

The land in question is a public access road- Kwale Diani/Beach Block/1072 valued at Kshs.30,000,000.00.

The EACC boss said that the trio was being escorted to Integrity Centre for further processing for arraignment before Mombasa Law Court on Tuesday.
