A bus driver in the fatal Twin Bridge crash in Mau Summit along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway is being charged following the Tuesday morning incident that left at least 15 people dead and scores injured.

Clement Kiarie faces 15 counts of causing death by auto and reckless driving, one count of contravening the use of insurance, and one more charge of carrying 41 uninsured passengers.

During his appearance before Molo Principal Magistrate Daisy Mosse on Thursday, January 11, 2024, Kiarie denied the charges and was released on a Ksh1 million bond.

The magistrate directed that he receive treatment as investigations into the matter continue.

“The accused needs to be taken for treatment, I can see he is visibly injured,” Daisy Mosse ruled.

The bus collided head-on with a shuttle at the notorious black spot on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, killing at least eight adults and four children on the spot.

Area police chief Juddah Gathenge confirmed the bus was ferrying passengers to Nairobi.
