Gilbert Mutuye Mungu, the 52-year-old driver allegedly responsible for the devastating accident at Londiani junction that claimed lives of over 50 people, has been denied bail by a Molo court.

He will remain in police custody at Nakuru Prison until his case is heard and determined. The trial is scheduled for 30 August.

During the court hearing, Chief Magistrate Ellena Nderitu concurred with the prosecution's concerns about the driver being a flight risk if granted bail, as he is not a Kenyan national.

Additionally, the prosecution revealed that the driver's employers have not been located since the accident, and they have not visited him since he was hospitalised. These factors weighed heavily in the court's decision to deny the suspect bail.

Mungu, a Rwandese national, is now facing a total of 90 charges, including dangerous driving that led to the tragic loss of 52 lives and damage to 10 vehicles.

In an interview with the media, Mutuye stated that the accident occurred due to a brake failure in the truck he was driving, resulting in the tragic incident at Londiani junction.
