There was drama at Otok Mixed Secondary school in Karachuonyo consistency, Homa Bay county, after students thoroughly caned parents who stormed the school compound to attack the principal on Thursday, March 9, 2023.

According to the school principal Jacktone Ogaga, drama ensued after the parents stormed the school's premises chanting and insulting him.

They claimed that they did not want the principal who was only introduced to the school on Thursday.

Ogaga noted that the rogue parents also attacked the deputy principal who was left injured after he was hit by a stone.

Shortly after, angry students who claimed that the parents were a hindrance to their studies emerged from their classrooms with wooden rods and roughed them up.

"Some angry students picked wooden rods and beat them. The parents were chased to about 2km from the school,” Ogaga stated.

It is unclear why the parents were protesting against the principal. However, the students who spoke to journalists claimed that some parents feared that the school would progress.

"They always want good teachers to get transferred but for us, we want to get taught and excel in academics," one of the students claimed.

The students also noted that the parents gained access to the school premises forcefully.

So far, police have arrested three parents responsible for the disruption at the school.

“We’re interrogating the suspects to establish the reasons why they wanted to eject the principal," Rachuonyo North sub-county police boss Lydia Parteiyie stated.

Meanwhile, the school's deputy principal is currently receiving treatment at a nearby health facility.
