Kimilili MP-elect Didmus Barasa has surrendered to authorities after a shooting incident that left one person dead in Bungoma on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.

The legislator turned himself in at the Bungoma Police station on Friday morning, hours after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) declared him a wanted man.

Barasa is alleged to have shot and killed Brian Olunga, an aide to one of his opponents after a disagreement at Chebukwani Polling Station, before going into hiding.

The George Kinoti-led directorate gave the suspect six hours to surrender to the nearest police station.

DCI also warned that serious action will be taken against any person who will be found harbouring the murder suspect.

Didmus Barasa in court to stop arrest

The MP thereafter moved to court in a bid to stop his imminent arrest.

In a suit filed under a certificate of urgency, Barasa, through his lawyer John Khaminwa, sought to be granted anticipatory bail pending a hearing and determination of his application.

"The court do grant Barasa bail pending arrest on ex-parte basis and hearing of the application," the court papers read.
