Nairobi County acting Governor Ann Kananu will be sworn in on Tuesday, November 16.

This is after her office wrote to the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary requesting a judge who will facilitate her swearing.

“Miss Ann Kananu is scheduled to be sworn as the City-County Governor on November 16 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, COMESA grounds at 10 am. Kindly designate a judge of the high court to facilitate the administration of the oath,” the letter read in part.

She was sworn in as the Deputy Governor on January 15, 2021, and was thereafter scheduled to be sworn in as the governor according to the constitution.

However, Kananu's swearing was challenged by her former boss Mike Sonko through civil appeal No E228 of 2021.

On October 22, 2021, the Court of Appeal paved way for the swearing-in after it dismissed a petition filed by the former governor.

He, however, moved to the supreme court which dismissed the aforementioned in Application No 14(E022) of 2021, paving way for the assumption of the substantive office of Governor-Nairobi City County by Ms Mwenda.

Sonko who was impeached late last year nominated Kananu to be his deputy.

The vetting process was challenged in court by activist Okiya Omtatah and the High Court through Hon justice Mrima declined the application to grant conservatory orders as sought by the petitioner.

It was then that the County Assembly approved her nomination as the Deputy Governor and was sworn in.
