An enumerator of the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) who was assigned to work in Maseno was on Saturday robbed and gang-raped by three armed men.

The incident occurred at around 1:30 am when the assailants, who were armed with machetes, raped her and stole her mobile phone, power bank, a torch belonging to KNBS and her laptop bag.

She had just completed her night's work at 12:30 am and was dropped off with her colleagues about 50 metres from her house.

The gangsters threatened to kill her if she called out for help and warned her against reporting the incident to the police.

According to the Kisumu County Commander Benson Maweu, the enumerator reported the incident at the Maseno Police Station and was later taken to a nearby hospital.

"She is in a stable condition right now but I want to condemn that act especially for someone who volunteered to work for the government," said Mr Maweu.

The police commander said they have launched an investigation to catch the three suspects.
