Detectives in Mombasa County have launched a manhunt for a man who allegedly murdered his Burundian girlfriend and mutilated her body at a Mombasa guest house.

Mombasa county police Commander Stephen Matu said the deceased Jean Marie was booked at Mikma Guest House located at Mwembe Tayari on Sunday 4:30 pm alongside Duice Mirigo Ogembo who is believed to be Marie's boyfriend.

Matu said that police drawn from Mombasa Central Police Station had received a distress report from the guard of the facility who alerted them of a body that had been found in a pool of blood inside one of the rooms.

"Upon their arrival, they found a lifeless body of a woman lying in a pool of blood. It had injuries on the neck with a deep cut on the lower abdomen exposing intestines and other body organs. Both her thighs, chest and right arm had deep cuts," Matu said.

Woman's body moved to mortuary

The police boss added that the suspect escaped by jumping through a window.

"We are following close leads and have intensified the whereabouts of the suspect. We shall soon bring him to book for the brutal and heinous act he committed," he said.

He, at the same, called on lovers to resolve issues amicably.

"It's too unfortunate that when love goes sour, we result to killing each other. We should all go back to God and ask him for his forgiveness," he noted.

Her body was moved to the Coast General Hospital awaiting postmortem.
