540 needy students in Kimilili are set to benefit from the Bungoma County Scholarships launched by Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
The MP who was accompanied by Governor Kenneth Lusaka announced that the students selected from 45 wards will benefit from the allocated Ksh250 million.
Others present at the launch held at St. Luke’s Boys High School in Kimilili on Saturday were Deputy Governor Jenipher Mbatiany, a section of MCAs, Education and Vocational Training CEC Dr. David Wamamili.
At the event, Barasa expressed optimism that the initiative will cater to bright needy students within the county.
He also implored his constituency MCAs to submit the names of needy students for them to get assistance.
"Join Governor Kenneth Makelo Lusaka for the launch of the 2024 County Scholarship Cohort at St Luke's Kimilili Boys High School. A total of 540 students, selected from 45 wards are set to benefit from the allocated Ksh250 million. Education taking centre stage," he stated.
“Resources are never enough therefore those who were left out of the scholarship program don’t give up, I’m going to accommodate you on my bursary beneficiaries," Barasa said.
Further, the MP assured residents that no vetting would be done for students previously left out on the county scholarship.
He also announced plans to enhance student attendance by temporarily suspending the construction of multi-story classrooms in the area.
“I have halted my plans to construct storey classrooms in Kimilili schools and pay for the student’s fees and later continue after another NG-CDF disbursement will be made,” Barasa added.
