Police in Nairobi have arrested the boyfriend of the 36-year-old Kenyatta University student whose body was found dumped two days after going on a coffee date.

The lifeless body of June Jerop was found with traces of blood days after she had gone out on a date with Jesse Wafula Wakukha, who is currently cooling his heels in police custody.

According to detectives, Wafula who was driving a Mercedes Benz at the time picked up the deceased from her house in South B on March 19, 2023, before leaving for an unknown destination for their date.

Preliminary reports revealed that the two stopped by a pharmacy in Imara Daima where they bought medicine.

On the same day, Wafula abandoned his car and left for his rural home in Bungoma County using public means. Detectives revealed that the car abandoned was found hours later with traces of blood that matched the deceased's DNA.

“The Mercedez Benz had traces of blood all over. The blood samples were taken to the government chemist for a DNA test to establish if it matches with that of the deceased,” Makadara acting DCI boss Jared Seko, stated.

What happened to Jerop

Jerop was found murdered in cold blood 48 hours after she had gone missing. Her body was found covered in a pool of blood and swollen.

The deceased who was a master's student and an accountant at the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) had informed her friends that she was heading out on a coffee date prior to the incident.

Her body was discovered at Jamhuri Primary School covered in blood.

A medical examination disclosed that the deceased may have died from excessive blood due to the injuries she suffered from a sharp object.

So far detectives have arrested three suspects in connection to her death, her boyfriend and two others.

The two other men were arrested after detectives analysed Wafula's phone. They were arraigned in court on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

Police asked for 14 days to conclude investigations before the case continues.

“We have arrested three suspects, among them the deceased’s boyfriend Wakukha and his two friends Allan Wafula and Timothy Masika, who are aiding in investigations. The suspects appeared at the Makadara law courts on Wednesday, but we sought 14 days to complete our investigations before they are charged with murder," Makadara sub-county Police Commander Judith Nyongesa stated.

Detectives are currently up in arms trying to establish the motive behind the brutal murder of the 36-year-old woman.

"Detectives have analysed phone data and they are piecing together more information to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death. We already know she was murdered, what we want to establish is the motive behind her killing," she added.
