The moribund National Super Alliance (Nasa) is split down the middle over the removal of Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala as Deputy Minority Leader.

Senator Malala is targeted for removal on Wednesday morning after surviving several attempts.

The Kakamega leader is a close ally of Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi who has been at loggerheads with the dominant Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in the Nasa coalition.

Nasa coalition has convened a Parliamentary Group meeting to seal Malala's fate.

Sources indicate that 17 ODM senators have signed the petition to have him dethroned from his position for alleged misconduct and mischief in the concluded Matungu by-election.

Wiper Senators Enock Wambua (Kitui), Agnes Muthama (Machakos), ANC’s George Khaniri (Vihiga), nominated Senator Petronillah Were and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula (Bungoma) have refused to append their signatures citing betrayal from their ODM counterparts.

Taita Taveta MP Johnes Mwaruma and his counterpart Stewart Madzayo have been touted to be the possible replacement for Senator Malala
