Fifteen houses in Emukaya Village, Navakholo Constituency in Kakamega County were on Thursday night burnt down by irate residents, who were protesting the killing of a 22-year-old man.

Kevin Mutenyo was stabbed to death while fighting over a 16-year-old girl at a “disco matanga” last Monday.

The irate group, comprising tens of boda boda operators, stormed the homes of the suspects, located 4 kilometres from the death scene, and set 15 houses on fire. The aggrieved group claimed that police officers were yet to take any lawful action against the suspects despite their identities known.

The protesters on Thursday evening carried Mutenyo’s body on their shoulders from a local morgue and marched with it on the Shisiru-Lurambi route, saying they were grieving their friend according to local traditions.

Attempts by police officers to disperse the group using teargas, bore no fruit as the protesters proceeded with their journey.

Mutenyo will be buried tomorrow (Saturday, November 21) at his father’s homestead in Emukaya Village.
