134 more test positive for COVID-19 in Kenya as 51 heal

Kenya has confirmed 134 new cases of coronavirus disease, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 2, 474, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi says.

Addressing journalists at Afya House in Nairobi on Friday, June 5, the CAS said the 134 cases were discovered in 3, 177 samples tested between Thursday and Friday.

One hundred and thirty one (131) of the 134 new cases were Kenyan nationals, whereas three were foreigners, said Dr. Mwangangi.

With 67 cases, Mombasa produced the highest number of new COVID-19 infections in Kenya, followed by Nairobi (31), Busia (15), Machakos (5), Taita-Taveta (4), Kilifi and Nakuru counties with two cases each.

Garissa, Murang’a, Kisumu, Uasin-Gishu and Kajiado counties recorded a case each.

In Mombasa, the 67 cases were drawn from Kisauni (25), Jomvu (12), Changamwe and Mvita with ten each, and Likoni (1).

In Nairobi, the 31 cases were discovered in Kibra (19), Westlands (7), Madaraka (3), Ruaraka, Kasarani and Embakasi South produced a case each.

All the coronavirus infections registered in Busia County were among truck drivers at the Kenya-Uganda border point.

The five cases in Machakos County were recorded in Athi River, said Dr. Mwangangi.

Ninety eight (98) of the 134 new patients are male, whereas 36 are female.

The youngest new patient is aged 6 years old, whereas the oldest is aged 70 years old.

The CAS also revealed that 51 more COVID-19 patients have recovered from the disease, and have since been discharged from various quarantine facilities across the country. The total number of recoveries in Kenya now stands at 643.

However, another patient succumbed to the disease, pushing the toll arising from COVID-19 to 79 in Kenya.

So far, the country has tested 90, 875 samples for coronavirus.
