Ex-Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has set the record straight about abandoning boxing star Conjestina Achieng'.

This comes after media personality Carol Radull shared the devastating state of Conjestina after she relapsed into her old lifestyle.

"On 2nd Jan I visited my friend Congestina Achieng in her shags in Yala. She's been there about 2 months and is back to her same lifestyle. She has good days and bad days. When I arrived she was having a bad day but her face lit up when she saw me and we chatted for a long time as best we could. I tried with my layman's ability to gently encourage her to "clean up her act". Many have tried to help her but none of us have succeeded in a long-term solution to her predicament," Radull stated.

Reacting to Radull's update, a section of fans poked holes into the boxer's situation accusing Sonko of using her to chase clout only to abandon her later.

But in his response on Friday, Sonko refuted the allegations and shared phone call conversations that revealed how the boxing star left his team due to a misunderstanding. In one instance, the former governor is heard criticizing the family as he faulted them for enabling her old ways by allowing her to get back into old behaviours such as smoking.

He chastised the family saying they watered down his efforts to revive the boxer's previous life away from drug addiction and encouraged them to play their part.

"Mnajua nyinyi kama family mnaniangusha, siezi kua nafanya kazi ya Conjestina kilaa saa, na wakenya nasaidia ni wengi, you should also play your part. Akikuja nyumbani munamwacha avute bangi. It is expensive. This process is very expensive," Sonko is heard saying.

"It is wasting my money and time, and it is not right. I did my best. The treatment is expensive, and paying doctors is also equally very expensive. This is embarrassing, and it looks like PR that I keep doing and abandoning," he added.

The former governor also recalled another instance where Conjestina got upset with him after he paid for her bus ticket instead of a flight ticket from Mombasa to Nairobi after all flights were fully booked.

Continuing his statement, the governor expressed disappointment that the efforts he had put into Conjestina were going to waste, however, he expressed that he would be giving her one last chance to mend her ways.

"I have seen a post by my good friend Carol Radul on Conjee, which attracted both positive and negative reactions from the public. Others were criticising and accusing me of playing PR and vipindiree.

"I hereby wish to respond with facts as hereunder: Kenyans, I did my best to help Conjee, but her family watered down my efforts. Fortunately, my heart is bigger than myself. At times, I fail to control it for the love I have for the people, especially the less fortunate, and I think this is the reason I initially gave Conjee the first, second, and now may be I will be forced to give a third and final chance again coz I'm always serious with all the cases we undertake and since we always document and account for the progress of all our sensitive cases," Sonko wrote.

Under the updates, Radull echoed his remarks saying he did the best he could do to help the boxing star.

"This man did all he could to help my friend Congestina Achieng," she stated.
