Patience Nyange’s role as AMWIK Executive Director ends, board announces

The Board of the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) has announced that Patience Nyange is no longer its Executive Director.

Nyange, who was appointed to the position on  November 15, 2022, has been replaced by Sharon Kechula.

"This is to notify you that Patience Nyange ceased to be the Executive Director of the Association of Media Women in Kenya as of 8th January 2024. The Board of Directors has appointed Sharon Kechula, who held the position of Programs Manager as the Acting Executive Director with immediate effect. She, with support from the board, will oversee the association's affairs," the board said in a statement.

Nyange's profile

Before she was appointed the AMWIK boss, Nyange worked in different media fields including broadcast journalism, international public relations and communications, social media management and mentorship for young journalists.

She was appointed to replace Judie Kaberia who resigned from the position to join the Friedrich Naumann Foundation East Africa. 

Nyange unsuccessfully vied for the Taita Taveta gubernatorial seat in 2022.

The media personality had resigned as a board member of the Media Council of Kenya to contest for the seat alongside other three women.

She also served as the Assistant Director at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) and Communications Advisor former Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.

Nyange holds a Master's Degree in International Public Relations and Global Communication Management from Cardiff University in the United Kingdom.

Sharon Kechula's profile

Before joining AMWIK, Sharon worked in various organisations with a duty of implementing local and international projects with a particular interest in sexual and reproductive health and rights and women empowerment.

At AMWIK, she was the programme manager where she was tasked with overseeing the planning, development, and execution of all programs and initiatives.

She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Disaster Management and International Diplomacy and a Diploma in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
