Popular Mugithi musician Samidoh, whose real name is Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, has confirmed that the son of former Nairobi Woman Representative hopeful Karen Nyamu was sired by him.

Samidoh’s confession comes five months after he denied having a sexual relationship with Karen Nyamu, whom, in October 2020, he referred to as only a "diehard fan".

“I am sorry I have put myself in a bad situation,” the Mumbi hit-maker said on Facebook on Tuesday, March 2.

“It is true I had a friendship with Ms. Karen Nyamu, and it is this involvement that led to the birth of an innocent child whom I have, and will always support; both emotionally and materially,” said Samidoh on the social networking site, which he enjoys a following of 398,000 fans.

The musician, who has two children (a son and a daughter) with his wife Edith Nderitu, said in the Facebook post that he is a “proud father of my children”.

Perturbed

Samidoh said he was “perturbed” by videos, which are resurfacing suggesting he left his wife for Karen Nyamu after getting a financial breakthrough.

“I am, however, perturbed by the motive and timing of these past videos which have led to unnecessary trolling of the child and my wife. I have never left my wife of 11 years for another woman. I apologised to her and my family before.”

The singer, 30, said he took to Facebook to “apologise to my fans” after handling the matter privately with his spouse.

“I now apologise to you my fans for setting a bad example. I take full responsibility for my mistakes which I regret. We have had our own shares of ups and downs but we are stronger and happy together,” said Samidoh.

‘No ex-girlfriend, whatsoever’

In December 2019, social media users, particularly on Twitter and Facebook, were awed by Samidoh’s humility despite the mega success he has enjoyed in music since he joined the industry in 2016.

Samidoh is also an Administration Police officer, who was transferred to the capital — Nairobi — after serving in Dadaab for years.

In an interview with ex-K24TV presenter Betty Kyallo, the father-of-three repeatedly said he owes all the success he enjoys today to God.

In the video-taped conversation aired on K24 Television on December 13, 2019, Samidoh recounted being brought up by his mother — a single parent — in Nakuru County. The musician said his childhood was ridden with challenges, given his mother was a peasant farmer, who engaged in menial jobs to feed, clothe and educate her children.

Samidoh said at some point life became so unbearable that he had to drop out of primary school.

Her mother’s friend, however, came to his rescue, when she managed to convince Samidoh’s head-teacher into readmitting him to school. The talented artiste would continue with his education uninterrupted, writing his KCSE exam in 2008.

“Getting a job, thereafter, became very difficult,” he said.

“It got really bad to the extent that I said I would approach my area DC in Nakuru and ask him for a job. I did exactly that. Given, I hadn’t furthered my education at the time, he asked me what I could do professionally, and I told him I wanted to be a cop. He asked me to run for a distance alongside other job-seekers, and I came second in the race. That is how he used his powers to help me join the disciplined forces,” said Samidoh, who has since gone ahead to pursue a diploma course in business information technology at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK).

The police constable would – in 2016 – launch his career in music after serving as a vocalist for a popular Gikuyu music band for a while.

And, his journey has been an undoubted success: he easily fills up stadia without much effort, and his music videos on YouTube enjoys nonpareil triumph among his peers.

Samidoh is a married man and a father of two young children (a son and a daughter) with his wife Edith Nderitu. He told Betty Kyallo that he met his wife in secondary school, and that his spouse was the only woman he hit on and ended up marrying.

“I was a very shy person. So, when I approached my wife in high school, and she smiled back at me and welcomed my advances, I was really impressed. She is the only woman I have dated in my entire life. I have no ex-girlfriend; I have never experienced a heartbreak,” said Samidoh in December 2019.

Samidoh’s wife, Edith, also revealed she had never dated any other man in her life besides her partner.
