Two police officers attached at the Central Police Station, Mombasa county, who were on duty when a robbery with violence suspect escaped from lawful custody have been interdicted.
According to an internal memo, the duo was interdicted awaiting completion of investigations surrounding the circumstances under which Abdalla Hussein Mohamed escaped alongside six other suspects barely a week after his re-arrest.
The court had ordered Mohammed to be detained at the station awaiting his production in court for sentencing after he pleaded guilty to charges of escaping from lawful custody after he allegedly bought his way out of the Mombasa law courts.

Robbery with violence is a crime
His whereabouts remain unknown after he managed to escape from the central police station cells.
Mohammed in his previous confession informed Mombasa Principal Magistrate Vincent Adet that his escape from the Mombasa law courts cells had been aided by a police officer after they offered him a bribe of Ksh30,000.
“It’s true that I escaped from the custody. However, we offered money to the police officer manning the cells and I want to enquire from the court on why he has not been charged alongside me and has been turned into a prosecution witness,” he posed.
The state in its application through state counsel Hillary Ishao had sought to have Mohammed detained at the central police station ahead of his sentencing last week.
In his sworn affidavit, Leonard Mutai who is the In-charge Anti-crime central police station informed the court that the station was unable to produce the suspect to court since he had escaped from the station alongside six other suspects.
It has further emerged that the cells in which Mohammed was being held were being manned by two police officers and in the same cells were three suspected terrorists who remained behind during the prison break.
The two officers have since recorded statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Urban police station.
Mohammed is facing several counts of robbery with violence with the latest offence related to robbing a police officer in areas of Changamwe.
Adet issued a warrant of arrest against the six suspects and further ordered the DCI to kick off investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the escape of the suspects from the lawful custody of the police.
