Three suspects involved in cases of robbery with violence have escaped from lawful custody at Mombasa Law Courts.

The officer in charge, Robert Musee reported the matter at Central Police Station and was recorded under OB number 89/04/04/2022.

Musee told the police that the suspects who were being held at the cells within the court's premises escaped from their custody on Tuesday at around 5:50 pm.

The three; Daniel Kimani, Hussein Abdalla, and Francis Mokaya escaped from the cell by sliding underneath the raised cell door before breaking a rusted bar from the grill door.

"Upon leaving the court's cells, the trio made its way out of the premises to an unknown destination through the courtrooms which at the time of the escape were empty," Musee said.

The three were arrested in connection to an incident where a female police officer was last week robbed in Changamwe area.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation are currently handling the matter with an aim of rearresting them.
