Kakamega court realeases suspected carjackers on Ksh2M bond

Three suspects who were charged with violently robbing a car from a taxi driver in Kakamega and killing him in the process, have been slapped with a Ksh2 million bond after they denied the charges.

Senior Principal magistrate Dolphina Alego said the nature of the alleged criminal offence was capital in nature and called for tough bond terms.

“You will also be expected to give a surety of the similar amount and attend court for mention in December 14 and you should be present when the hearing begins in May 25 next year," she said.

The suspects Hassan Wandati Nando, Rhoda Viyanzi Litsalia and Nwajuma Imbwana Asman were charged with violently robbing and killing 26-year-old Ibrahim Omodo on October 1, 2021 in Nandi hills.

The prosecution said that the trio stole the taxi driver's car, a Toyota Prado, killed him and dumped his body in a sugarcane plantation in Nandi County.

Nando was charged with another count of possessing the stolen Identification card of the dead man and his ATM card at Kahoya in Eldoret on November, 15. He however denied the charge.

Similarly Litsali, faced an additional count of handling a car tracker gadget police believe was disconnected from the Prado in her house in Eldoret. She denied the charge.

The State lawyer said the car was recovered in Tororo, Uganda following concerted search operation by the Kenya and Uganda detectives.
