Patel Mansukh Kansagara, whose son is the owner of Nakuru's Patel Dam that burst in 2018 killing 48 people, is dead, Solai Location Senior Chief Charles Kiragu has confirmed.

According to Kiragu, Mansuhk died yesterday evening at around 4 PM while being attended to at Agha Khan Hospital Nairobi, and one of his sons had confirmed saying that he had been taken ill a few days ago.

“We learnt that one of Solai’s great friend Mansukh had died through his son Perry, and the family has not yet disclosed the cause of death. However, plans to cremate his body are underway and his remains will be buried in his Solai Millnet farm,” Kiragu told K24 Digital.

Showing remorse, Kiragu said that the death was a big blow to the entire Solai community.

“Even though the Patel Dam case is still ongoing in court, Solai residents do not rejoice in death and the entire community is in mourning,” he added.

In 2020, a Naivasha court’s Chief Magistrate Kennedy Bidali acquitted Mansukh alongside eight others who had been charged with causing the deaths of about 48 lives, after the collapse of the dam in March 2018. The court made the ruling citing lack of proper evidence and commitment from the prosecutors.

The decision was however appealed and started afresh in the High court.
