Hero diners tackled a gunman who stormed a Dublin steakhouse and took fire at a father and son, it has been reported.

The shooter is said to have suffered fatal stab wounds after being wrestled to the ground by customers and staff.

One man died and a second man was left seriously injured following the attack in Browne’s Steakhouse on Main Street in Blanchardstown on Sunday evening.

So far, it is believed that the man who died was one of the gunmen. He has been named locally as Tristan Sherry.

A father and son who were in the restaurant and who are known to Irish police are believed to have been the targets of the gunman who fired several shots.

Both men were rushed from the scene to the Irish capital’s James Connolly Memorial Hospital, but the younger man was soon pronounced dead.

The older man was receiving treatment for gunshot wounds, and it is unconfirmed whether the man who was killed was also shot.

Footage shared to social media shows terrified families running for their lives and hiding under tables as shots ring out through the restaurant.

Emergency services arrived at the restaurant at around 8pm, after shots rang out as people were enjoying a pre-Christmas dinner.
