Weatherman urges Kenyans to brace for continued rains

The Kenya Meteorological Department has implored Kenyans to brace themselves ahead of the rains set to continue across different parts of the country from today.

A forecast shared by the department's official X platform indicated that the rains are expected to continue across the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, South Eastern lowlands, and the Coast from December 5 to December 11, 2023.

The forecast also indicated that isolated storms and heavy rainfall are likely to occur in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Southeastern lowlands.

Similarly, high average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius will be experienced at the coast, North Eastern and North Western Kenya.

"🌧️ Weather Outlook (5-11 Dec 2023): Expect continued rainfall in Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, SE lowlands, and the Coast. Isolated storms and heavy rain are possible in these areas. High daytime temps (>30°C) in Coast, NE, NW Kenya; low night temps (<10°C)," he stated.

The weatherman also indicated that occasional morning rains will be experienced over a few places in parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley. This includes areas such as Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot Counties.

The Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County), and the South-eastern lowlands of the Rift Valley areas will also experience occasional rains.

"Morning rains are expected over few places. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places. Night showers are expected over few places," the met department added.

Further, the met department announced that the Northwestern region which includes Turkana and Samburu counties will be sunny and cloudy whereas the coastal will experience morning, afternoon and night showers over a few places.
