Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko said on Thursday that he will name his deputy on Friday, September 6.

Speaking at Ushuru House in Nairobi, Sonko said he completed vetting all the candidates, and that he has now settled on one.

In past interviews, the Nairobi County chief said his choice for a deputy governor will be a woman.

The Nairobi County Government has operated without a deputy governor for one year and eight months following Polycarp Igathe’s resignation in January, 2018.

Sonko’s decision to pick Miguna Miguna as Igathe’s replacement in May 2018, was rejected by the city county assembly.

On his end, Miguna said he could not work with Sonko, whom he accused of lacking integrity.

While announcing his resignation from his DG post in January 2018, Igathe said it was “difficult working with Sonko” whom he accused of frustrating him.

Igathe, thereafter, joined Equity Bank as a director, a post he has since resigned from to join his former employer, Vivo Energy, as the Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing.
