Uasin Gishu senator Jackson Mandago has been arrested over the botched Ksh1.1 billion Finland and Canada scholarships.
Mandago was nabbed on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at his residence before being taken to DCI offices in Nakuru.
This comes after a warrant was issued to arrest the senator and three others after they failed to appear before Nakuru Chief Magistrate for plea-taking.
Prior to his arrest, police issued a statement claiming he went into hiding on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
NPS appealed to the Senator to present himself to the nearest police station and asked the members of the public to share any information that could lead to his arrest.
"The National Police Service is in the process of executing a Warrant of Arrest against Uasin Gishu Senator Hon. Jackson Mandago, who has gone underground since yesterday and calls upon the Senator to present himself at the nearest police station," the police said.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto said he was aware of the ongoing scandal and called on suspects to refund misappropriated funds.
"Mambo ya Finland najua tuko na matatizo, kuna wazazi wametoa pesa na pesa yao haijulikani iko wapi,"President Ruto told residents "Kama kuna mtu alikula hiyo pesa ajipange kulipa mapema ama ataingia taabani. Hakuna maneno ya kubembelezana, pesa ya ngombe ya mtu ama aliuza shamba lazima arudishiwe pesa yake," he stated.
The Head of State was speaking in Uasin Gishu ahead of the three-day Devolution Conference.
