Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has been hospitalised.

According to a statement shared by his team on his official Facebook page, the MP was hospitalised on Monday.

"Honourable Peter Salasya is currently not feeling well please pray for him. It's not well with him," the statement read in parts.

The latest comes days after the MP's arrest after he assaulted a man during a burial in Maraba village, Mumia East constituency.

During the unfortunate incident, Salasya is said to have slapped Makunga Member of County Assembly (MCA) Peter Indimuli.

At the time, Indimuli had asked the MP to observe family decorum in his speech, however, the MP arrogantly shouted him down before descending slaps and blows on him.

Police also noted that the MP's bodyguards fired gunshots shortly after the fracas.

"Indimuli requested the MP observe family decorum in his speech, but instead the MP arrogantly shouted him down, which immediately erupted into unrest amongst the mourners. The MP then attacked the MCA with blows and slaps," a police report reads in part.

"Four gunshots suspected to have been discharged by the MP's security detail were heard," the report added.

After the incident, a section of MCAs criticized the MP over the attack and urged security agencies to speed investigations and tathat he respect's other leaders in the

“We want to tell MPs in general that MCAs have no war with them and they should respect us. Today our area chief has said we are safe here and I want him to escort me to town,” Majority leader Philip Maina stated.

“We condemn that uncalled for action and for that reason; we will have a meeting tomorrow as MCAs to address the issue. MCAs have been elected, just like MPs the only difference is the area of jurisdiction," he added.
