Motorists can expect lower fuel prices in 2024 after President William Ruto's promise.

The Head of State said although he barely has a say on fuel prices, he is keen to ensure the prices will drop as crude oil prices fall.

Ruto was speaking in Kisii County during a Thanksgiving Mass on Saturday, December 16, 2023.

"Askofu amenisifu amesema nimeanza kuteremsha bei ya mafuta, mwingine amesema nimeteremsha kiasi kidogo, teremsha zaidi. Niliwaambia bei ya mafuta itarudi chini, nawaambia tena mwezi ujao bei ya mafuta itarudi chini," he said.

Loosely translated as"(The Bishop has praised me due to fuel price drop and some have asked me to drop them further. I previously announced the cost would be reduced and even now I'm announcing the cost will drop further next month.)

Adding;

"The President only does what is mandated of him and in fuel prices, I don't have a say. There are many players."

In the recent review on Friday, December 14, 2023, the Energy Petroleum Regulator Authority (EPRA) adjusted the prices downwards by Ksh5 for super petrol, diesel by Ksh2 and kerosene by Ksh4 per litre.

EPRA said the price reduction in super petrol, diesel and kerosene was a result of the prices of oil decreasing in the international market.

"The average landed cost of imported super petrol decreased by 16.11% from US$827.75 per cubic metre in October 2023 to US$694.44 per cubic metre in November 2023; diesel decreased by 5.43% from US$873.42 per cubic metre to US$826.01 per cubic metre while kerosene decreased by 6.63% from US$813.90 per cubic metre to US$759.93 per cubic metre," EPRA said in a statement shared on Thursday, December 14, 2023.
