President William Ruto on Thursday, February 8, 2024, met a group of senior officials of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).

Led by Governor Hayashi Nobumitsu, the delegation met Ruto in Tokyo during the continuation of his four-day state visit to Japan.

After the meeting, Ruto stated that JBIC was keen to finance investment in the country's strategic projects including Information Communication and Technology and the energy sector.

"Kenya is glad that the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) is keen to finance investment in our strategic projects, including energy and ICT.

"We are encouraging them to put more emphasis on investment in our manufacturing, industrial and agricultural value chains that will create jobs for our youth,

President Ruto jetted out of the country on Monday night for a state visit to Japan.

The visit which marks the first by a Kenyan President in 20 years followed Prime Minister Fumio Kushida's State visit to Kenya in May 2023.

"The visit follows Prime Minister Fumio Kushida's State visit to Kenya in May 2023 and celebrates 60 years of diplomatic relations between Kenya and Japan," a statement by State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed announced.
