Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga has once again taken a swipe at President William Ruto's administration over its policies on taxation.

Speaking during a recruitment drive for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party on Monday, November 27, 2023, Raila called out the government over its policies noting that the move is ill-advised and is likely to lead to destruction rather than development.

He went on to state that even with an addition of 100 years to his presidential term President Ruto will still not bring development to the country since he is surrounded by corrupt individuals ready to loot public resources.

"Ushuru inaongezwa hapa kila siku, nyungu inavuja…the pot is leaking, ata tupatie Ruto miaka mia moja na hio ushuru ya juu, hataleta mabadiliko, hakuna mahali anaenda. Yeye amezingirwa na wale wezi ambao wanatoa pesa kila pande," Raila said.

Loosely translated to:

"The government is increasing taxes day in and day out. Even if Ruto's term is increased by 100 years, he will not bring development by increasing taxes because he is surrounded by thieves ready to steal,"

He also criticized the government over the irregularities noted in some of the recently released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations.

Raila while stating that the errors were shameful, wondered how different candidates scored similar results.

He further insinuated that Ruto's regime was facing different problems because they denied him his victory in the 2022 general election.

"Sasa mmeona vile mambo ya mtihani imekua, watoto katika darasa moja wanapata gredi moja, ni aibu kubwa. Hii serikali ya Ruto kila pahali wanashika inaoza, inanuka tu, kwa sababu gani? Laana ya mwenyezi Mungu, waliiba wakameza ikakwama kwa koo na haitatoka hapo, mpaka waanguke chini," he said.

Loosely translated to;

"You have all seen how the KCPE results turned out, it's such as shame that students in the same class get similar marks in a subject. Anywhere Ruto's administration touches has faults, why? Its a curse for stealing my victory."
