Nairobians have been advised to avoid Lang'ata Road and instead use alternative routes on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

Nairobi Regional Commissioner Adamson Bungei warned that Lang'ata Road will experience heavy traffic on Tuesday because of Jamhuri Day celebrations that will be held at Uhuru Gardens.

"It will be the gateway to Uhuru Gardens. Those with intentions of using that road should think twice," Bungei said while speaking to the press.

The Nairobi police boss nonetheless stated that Lang'ata Road will not be closed, only stressing that there will be a lot of traffic due to the Jamhuri Day fete.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo earlier assured Kenyans that there is adequate security deployment across the country as Kenya marks the 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations tomorrow.

Omollo said that Uhuru Gardens will be covered by both the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the National Police Service (NPS) to ensure a successful event.

Three Heads of State are expected to attend the ceremony alongside more than 30,000 Kenyans.

The PS said a total of 12,000 seats had already been set and the rest will be ready by Monday evening, even as he added that there is still room for more.

“We want to invite all Kenyans to join us at Uhuru Gardens on Tuesday,” Omollo said when he inspected Jamhuri grounds.

“We expect that the celebrations will be rolled out in other parts of the counties and for those who will not be able to make it to Uhuru Gardens, we advise they celebrate with us in their respective locations

"We have made adequate security arrangements and starting today until after the celebrations, these grounds will be covered by our brothers from KDF and NPS to have a successful event because the security deployment is in place for the rest of the city and as well as the country," the Interior PS added.
