Parts of Nairobi to go without water from Friday to Sat**day

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd (NCWSC) has announced a temporary water supply interruption in several parts of Nairobi County.

In a statement released on Thursday, December 14 the measure is necessary to facilitate the shutdown of the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline for critical repairs.

The interruption is scheduled to commence on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 7:00 a.m., and is expected to last until Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 7:00 am.

According to the statement, the shutdown aims to address major leaks along the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline, which, if not promptly repaired, could lead to severe consequences such as landslides and further damage to the pipeline infrastructure.

"The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd. would like to inform its esteemed customers that there will be an emergency shutdown of the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline on Friday, 15 December 2023 starting 7.00 am to 16 December 2023, 7.00 am The aim of the shutdown is to facilitate repairs of major leaks along the pipeline which if not contained will lead to major landslides resulting to more damage to the pipeline," NCWSC managing director stated.

During the shutdown period, water supply to the following areas will be temporarily halted:

  • Areas around International School of Kenya, Kinanda Valley, Oiling Valley, and Magnolia.
  • Areas along Waiyaki Way Road, James Gichuru Road, Dennis Pritt Road, Ngong Road, Langata Road, Peponi Road, Kikuyu Road, Naivasha Road, Mbagathi Road, and Riverside Drive.
  • Entire neighbourhoods including Lavington, Kilimani, Westlands, Parklands, Loresho, Kangemi, Uthiru, Karen, Kawangware, Riruta, Langata, Kibera, Dam Estate, Kileleshwa, Nyayo Highrise Kibera, Ngumo, and Woody Estates, among others in adjacent areas.

NCWSC assured its customers that every effort would be made to restore the water supply as quickly as possible.

However, they urged residents in the affected areas to use stored water sparingly during the interruption period.
