A section of parents and students at St Phillips in Nyamira, Kisii county on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, protested the transfer of the school principal.

Addressing the press, the agitated parents expressed dissatisfaction with the school saying the continuous transfers were affecting the performers of learners.

The parents expressed their frustrations that the principal was transferred for being a non-catholic, and also disclosed that the school has constantly switched principals without consulting the parents

They complained the move was inconsiderate of learners and parents who were already adjusting to previous policies from the different headteachers, they also warned that they would transfer their children from the institution should the transfers continue.

"Watoto wangu wanasoma hapa sasa shida yetu ni ile kina mama wazaz, waalimu wanakuja hapa wanahamishwa, wakikaa mwezi wanahamishwa, sasa tumepata mwengine mzuri amekuja akajenga classes akatuambia tulete watoto tunanunua magodoro anaambiwa aondoke ati si mkatoliki," one Grace Mirambo, a parent said.

"Huyu wa nyuma wa jana alitolewa kama hatarudishwa hakuna njia ingine available tutatoa watoto wetu katika hii shule, ata wakati hii shida ilitokea tulifuatilia tukakuta kwamba wakatoliki wamejihushisha ndani wanasema ya kwamba huyu mwalimu walifukuza si wa kikatoliki."

The parents also complained that when they consulted the school on the transfers, they were informed that the school sponsor had the final decision on the transfers and as such no changes could be made afterwards.

While protesting the move, the parents have now asked Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu to intervene on the matter and stop the school.

"We are being told that the sponsor is final, the education CS brother Machogu we have all known that in issue of education the CS onwards to the president are the final decision makers on this issue, we are asking Machogu to take charge and let it be known that the sponsor is not final in this school," Peter Ongwae said.
