Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro on Wednesday night confirmed that he had recovered his hacked Facebook account.

The MP's account had been held hostage by unknown hackers who posted explicit content on his account's story sparking debate.

“My Facebook page was hacked yesterday. We are trying to resolve the problem,” the MP said at the time.

But in a confirmation on Wednesday, Nyoro noted that he was able to resolve the issue as he explained what transpired moments before his account was infiltrated.

In his statement shared via his official Facebook account, the lawmaker claimed that he received a notification purportedly sent by Facebook warning him that the said account was to be permanently disabled for going against guidelines.

At the time, the MP says they thought the warning was attributed to the live session they had on New Year's Eve. But upon appealing the notice, they unknowingly handed over the account to the hackers

"We are back. Just to help someone out there. On 1st, we saw a notification attached below (it is still there) purportedly sent by Facebook that the account was to be permanently disabled ostensibly for going against Facebook guidelines - we thought it was because we were live on the night of 31st playing Live music.

"On clicking the notification, there was a link on how to "appeal" the same. Without knowing, we literally handed over the account to hackers thinking it was Facebook. And the account was already on 2-factor authentication but it could help at that point," the MP wrote.

He went on to advise Kenyans to always double-check such notifications to avoid falling into similar situations. The MP also expressed gratitude to the team that helped him regain his account.

While lauding the team, Nyoro particularly thanked digital strategist Dennis Itumbi and the entire Meta team from London for their efforts.

"To cut the long story short, it is important to double-check such notifications if the actually come from Meta, Facebook. Many thanks to Dennis Itumbi, Laban Cliff, the entire meta team led by the Regional Head, Mercy Ndegwa and Facebook team from London for working around the clock to defeat the hackers. Asanteni sana Wakenya wote. We are African and Africa is our Business, (SIC)" he added.
