Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Alfred Mutua has pledged to revamp all Equator signage.

In a statement on his X account, Mutua emphasized the significance of uplifting the presentation and quality of the Equator signage to attract both local and international tourists.

Mutua highlighted a comparison between Kenya's Equator signs and those in Ecuador, pointing out the stark difference in quality.

"For local and foreign tourists to pay top shillings for services, we also have to get our act together. The presentation of our Equator signages, for example, compared to that of Ecuador, is low quality. Together with stakeholders, I will fix this shame - Chap Chap," Mutua affirmed.

The CS stressed the importance of a significant visual upgrade to the country's Equator signage to align it with international standards.

He emphasized that this enhancement is vital in positioning Kenya as a premier tourist destination, thereby attracting more visitors and revenue to the country.

Mutua pledges to reform the tourism ministry

On October 11, 2023, Alfred Mutua assumed control of the Tourism and Wildlife Ministry following President William Ruto's inaugural cabinet reshuffle.

Mutua pledged to reform the Tourism Ministry, promising to explore new tourist attractions and pathways for both domestic and international visitors.

"We will explore and create new tourist attractions and pathways for domestic and international tourists. We will re-examine and redesign the entire tourism ecosystem in Kenya with a view to improving the flow of tourists. I will enjoin the County governments in identifying and implementing strategic plans in order to promote our mission of creating jobs," the CS stated,

"We believe that by working closely with the County governments, we can tap into their local knowledge, resources, and unique attractions to diversify our tourism offerings. This will not only boost the economy but also create employment opportunities for our people," Mutua emphasized.
