Law enforcement authorities intercepted and seized over 1 kilogram of methamphetamine concealed within bicycle saddles at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

According to detectives the narcotics are estimated to be worth more than Ksh9 million and were discovered as part of a consignment destined for Jakarta, Indonesia.

"The drug estimated at over Sh9 million was stashed among other items declared as bicycle accessories in a consignment being shipped from Moroni, Comoros," the DCI statement stated.

The operation that led to this major drug bust was the result of vigilant and dedicated efforts by operational detectives stationed at JKIA, tasked with tackling immigration-related crimes and inspecting suspicious cargo.

Acting on a tip-off, these diligent officers converged at the DHL shed, where a thorough verification exercise was carried out on a consignment that had originated from Moroni, Comoros.

Concealed within eleven bicycle saddles were brown packages containing a white crystalline substance.

Subsequent tests confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine, a potent and highly addictive illegal drug.

"Lynx-eyed operational detectives deployed at the airport to tackle immigration crime and suspicious cargo had converged at the DHL shed for a verification exercise, where brown packages with a white crystalline substance were found concealed in eleven saddles. Upon testing, the same tested positive for methamphetamine," the DCI statement read in part.

International efforts have been launched, with Interpol taking an active role in identifying and apprehending those responsible for this illicit trade.

Authorities are determined to hold the culprits accountable for their actions, as part of an ongoing battle against drug abuse and the trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances within the country.

Detectives issued a stern warning, emphasizing the unwavering commitment of the DCI to combat drug-related crimes.

"The war against abuse and trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances has heightened in the country, and the DCI warns that the Kenyan soil will remain a hostile ground for perpetrators, irrespective of their status in the country," the statement concluded.
