Main suspect in gruesome murder of Khadijah Hussein arrested

The main suspect in the murder of Khadijah Hussein has been arrested and placed under police custody.

In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) noted that the suspect, Michael Barasa Wanyama, 20, will appear at the Garissa Chief Magistrate's court on April 10, 2023, to answer to murder charges.

Wanyama is said to have been part of a gang of three men that partook in the gruesome murder of the 37-year-old woman in Garissa.

Detectives say the assailants attacked the deceased with a sharp object on her upper abdomen. She was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment at Medina Diagnostic Hospital.

"Michael Barasa Wanyama, 20, who was part of a pack of three men who masterminded the murder of the 37-year-old woman, will be appearing at the Garissa Chief Magistrate’s Court on April 10, 2023, to answer his crimes. The deceased who was attacked using a sharp object believed to be a Somali sword that went through her upper abdomen was pronounced dead at Medina Diagnostic Hospital while undergoing treatment," the statement reads in parts.

The detectives have appealed to members of the public who may have information on the other suspects to volunteer through their toll-free number.

"Detectives are appealing to any member of the public who may have information leading to the arrest of the rest of the suspects to volunteer it through our anonymous toll free number 0800 722 203 or visit the Serious Crimes Unit at DCI headquarters on any day of the week," the statement added.
