Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has urged the Mount Kenya Region to reconsider its approach to impeaching their governors.

In a post on his X account, Kuria noted that other regions should be given the opportunity to impeach their governors as well, joking that it would be important for inclusivity, diversity, and national cohesion.

The Trade CS also mentioned a historical context, pointing out that in the previous term, Kiambu County from the Mount Kenya region made history by successfully impeaching a governor.

"In the last term, Kiambu County from Mt Kenya region made history by becoming the first county to successfully impeach a Governor.

"In this term, Meru County In Mt Kenya region is determined to become the first County to successfully impeach the Governor," Kuria pointed.

"Unless impeachment has something to do with the soils, altitude or climatic conditions, it is necessary for Mt Kenya region to give other regions an opportunity to impeach their Governors in the spirit of inclusivity, diversity and national cohesion. My two Cents," he asserted.

His statement comes in light of the recent impeachment proceedings against Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, which Kuria noted would make Meru County the first in this term to impeach a governor.

The move to impeach Mwangaza was initiated by members of the Meru County Assembly allied to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party.

The MCAs withdrew their support for Mwangaza and announced plans to impeach her over allegations of gross misconduct.

The motion received support from members of various political parties, including PNU, NOPEU, Jubilee, and DEP 'Mbus' party.

The MCAs have accused Governor Mwangaza of lacking respect for other elected leaders and interfering with the ward development fund.

Mwangaza previous impeachment motion

In a previous impeachment motion last year, she survived after the Senate ruled that the allegations were unsubstantiated.

The special hearing, chaired by Senator Boni Khalwale, found that none of the charges and grounds put forward were proven.
