'We will deploy from 1 am' - Kindiki says ahead of Wednesday's protests

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki now says the government shall deploy security forces to tackle protestors before dawn.

In his public address on security in Kiserian, Baringo South Constituency, the CS says his docket will deploy police officers as early as 1:00 am to ensure the country is safe during the planned anti-government protests on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

"We tried to test whether there could be a peaceful protest but there was a lot of bloodshed and damage. I hear they have threatened again to go out. We are ready for them, on Wednesday we will deploy from 1 am. We will ensure no looter, no hooligan and no criminal gets their way. This time we will be very vicious. We will ensure our country is safe," he noted.

Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition announced that this week's demos will begin on Wednesday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

The coalition reiterated that it will not pursue any engagement with the government until all perpetrators of violence meted out against protesters are arrested.

"Our people will not be surrendered or be cowed. ..Our peaceful, countrywide demos will continue next week Wednesday. We are serving notice to all the OCSs across the country for the Wednesday peaceful demos.

"We will pursue no engagement with Kenya Kwanza until the perpetrators are apprehended," the statement read by Usawa party leader Mwangi Wa Iria on Saturday, July 22, 2023, stated.
