Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale is advocating for retrospective voting following an emerging video of Mumias East MP Salasya violently attacking a man at a funeral.
In a statement on social media, the senator argues that a section of elected leaders have gone haywire and petitioned voters to adopt the classic idea of electoral accountability that rejects a badly behaved incumbent in favour of a well-behaved one.
"Our leaders have gone mad. From an MP shooting a DJ to another one shooting a man dead, to others pitting rival goons against each other and now to this! Kenyan voters must seriously retrospect," Khalwale stated.
In the video, the controversial MP while addressing mourners was heard giving instructions to the victim to exit the stage in vain.
He would later attack him before his security detail intervened briefly disrupting the ceremony.
Meanwhile, the MP who was arrested after the attack was released on Ksh50,000 cash bail pending his arraignment on Tuesday, January 16.
A section of netizens and leaders have condemned the incident as sampled below;
My friend Hon. PK Salasya, now relax, be calm and behave/act like a leader. You will THANK ME later.— Philip Etale (@EtalePhilip) January 13, 2024
You hear Kenyans complaining about having bad corrupt leaders yet its them that elect them to office

These young politicians should be taught how to deal with anger. Peter Salasya slapping someone at a funeral is just uncalled for, I mean you're a leader who people look up to and such acts are unacceptable in every way.— EDGAR 🇰🇪 (@edgarwabwire_) January 13, 2024
This one didn't merit to be an MP. The child inside him has refused to grow. Replacing Washali with this caricature was a mistake.— Amwoga Khalwale (@amwogakhalwale) January 13, 2024
This is very shameful to say the least. I hope he faces the full force of the law— 1759 (@IamDuncan_) January 13, 2024
