Kenya Power confirms resumption of token purchase service

Kenya Power has issued a statement informing Kenyans of the full resumption of prepaid service.

In their statement on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the utility company stated that the issue affecting the token purchase system was a system disruption that led to delays and that the issue had been fully resolved yesterday.

The company confirmed that all electricity tokens purchased by respective customers via MPESA had been processed and sent out.

"Following a recent system disruption that led to delays in the processing and delivery of prepaid tokens, we are glad to inform our customers that the issue was resolved yesterday (Monday 12th February 2024), enabling our customers to conveniently buy their tokens through MPESA Paybill nO. 888880," the company said.

Additionally, the company expressed gratitude to customers for their patience.

"We also wish to inform our customers that they can access tokens by dialling *977 and via myPower App at any time. The company regrets the inconvenience caused by the system downtime and wishes to thank the affected customers for their patience," the company added.

Earlier, Safaricom came out to explain that the token purchase system was being affected by Kenya Power.

The company which was responding to a frustrated Kenyan stated that Kenya Power was undergoing delays with token production and the issue was being resolved.

"Kindly note, that the token is generated by KPLC. They are having delays with token production, kindly allow them time to resolve the issue and send the token," Safaricom said.
