A detective attached to Kasarani DCI has been granted the orders to detain a suspect linked with the death of a child said to have fallen from the chair.

The suspect Jacob Gicharu Mugure was presented before Makadara principal Magistrate Merrisia Opondo following his arrest.

In an affidavit filed in court, the court was told that the child fell off from a chair on November 9 at Sunton area within Kasarani Sub-County.

The minor is said to have been left in the suspect’s custody while the mother went to do daily laundry to earn a living at a nearby estate.

While she was still away, she received a call from a neighbour who told her that her child had become sick after falling off from a chair, and had been rushed to a nearby Hospital.

The mother rushed to the hospital and found her son who had been put on treatment had already been pronounced dead under unclear circumstances.

The matter was reported to the authorities, who arrested the suspect. The suspect was the stepfather to the deceased minor.

Detectives handling the matter had sought to hold the suspect for 14 more days pending investigations, but the court granted him the order to hold him for 10 days.

The court also ordered should the detectives fail to complete probing the matter, then he should go back to the court to ask for four more days.

“Your honour, I need to do comprehensive investigations which includes; recording more witness statements, taking the suspect to Psychiatric test as well as forwarding the file to the director of public prosecution for perusal and in determination of preferred charge," the investigative officer urged.

The matter is set to be mentioned on December 1, 2021.
