Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has strongly condemned the “reported arrest and abduction” of Azimio leaders in the wake of planned 3-day protests.

Among those arrested is Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino who was arrested at the JKIA, MP Ken Chonga of Kilifi South and a number of MCAs over ongoing anti-government demos.

Karua says the arrests “are a desperate attempt by the illegitimate Ruto regime to paralyze Azimio and stop its top leaders and to sabotage the exercise of the constitutional right of peaceful demonstrations.”

In a statement, on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, Karua, who ran as Raila's running mate in the last presidential election further demanded the release of the aforementioned lawmakers noting that the 'struggle continues'.

"We demand the immediate release of those detained noting that their detention is not only malicious but also unlawful. We further demand respect for our constitution and law."

Earlier today, ODM party Director of Communications Philip Etale, alleged that Raila Odinga's spokesperson Dennis Onyango was arrested during a raid at his home located along Mbagathi Way in Nairobi.

According to Etale, officers ransacked the house before whisking Onyango away to an unknown location.

"Police have a few minutes ago raided the house of RailaOdinga's spokesman Dennis Onyango, along Mbagathi Way ransacked it, and arrested him. His son says they have driven off with him in two Subaru vehicles," Etale said in a tweet and attached a short video of the alleged raid.

Etale further alleged that Raila's private bodyguard had been abducted by unknown people in plain clothes suspected to be officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) while heading to work.

"Unknown people in plain clothes suspected to be police officers from the DCI have abducted Raila Odinga’s bodyguard Maurice Ogeta while driving to work bundled him in the car boot and driven away with him to an unknown destination. His whereabouts remain unknown," Etale said.
