EACC lawyer Joyce Munene lands role with International Bar A*sociation

Joyce Munene, a lawyer and an investigator with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has been appointed as a liaison officer for the Criminal Law Committee with the International Bar Association (IBA) representing the African Region.

The IBA, a globally recognised organization founded in 1947, represents legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies globally.

IBA's main objective is the promotion and preservation of the rule of law internationally. It has grown to include individual international lawyers from leading law firms and almost 200 bar associations and law societies across the five continents.

The organization provides assistance and legal programmes around the world focusing on issues such as international law reforms and mapping out the strategic direction of the legal profession across the world. The African Regional Forum serves as the executive committee for the IBA in the African Region.

"I am happy to have secured this position at a time when Kenya is advancing its global and regional influence and presence on diverse fronts. I look forward to contributing to the regional quest for good governance, justice and rule of law in line with objectives of the International Bar Association," Munene said.

Munene's experience

She is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and is currently an Assistant Director with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

Before joining the Commission, she worked in the private sector and the Parliamentary Service Commission.

Munene is also a forensic investigator trained with reputable organizations such as the FBI and the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) of Hong Kong. She holds a Master of Laws in International Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Laws.

In 2022, she was awarded by the President of the Republic of Kenya with the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC).
